Development council: Prioritize coastal roads

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The sectoral committee for infrastructure development (SCID) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Central Luzon “strongly endorsed”, and vowed to prioritize the construction and development of coastal roads linking Bulacan, Pampanga and Bataan.
SCID chairman and Bulacan Governor Wilhemino Sy-Alvarado said the motion raised by Balanga City [Bataan] Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III merited immediate attention and endorsement since the construction of the coastal roads from Calumpit to Lubao is part of the 25-year development plan.
It can be recalled that a similar scheme has been broached early last year by Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda and Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and similarly been included in the province’s development plan which notes the coastal roads would spur development in Libao, Sasmuan, Macabebe, Masantol and part of Minalin.
“We are strongly endorsing it and draft the necessary resolution of support. As far as I know, there has already been a feasibility study on that since it is part of the 25-year development plan of the past administrations. All it needs now is revisiting the proposal because the coastal roads would definitely bring development in areas of Bulacan and Pampanga as well as Bataan where they would traverse,” said Sy-Alvarado.
“It is actually what they did in Cavite. Look at how fast communities and business grew along their renowned coastal road. They veered away from center points and moved outwards to coastal areas before focusing on main inner areas. It will facilitate the transport of goods from the west –that is Bataan and Pampanga — to south like Bulacan And Manila and vice versa. Aside from that, it will cut travel time by as much as two hours. Sana lang it would be realized during our time,” he added.
Sy-Alvarado also told Sun.Star Pampanga that the SCID will formalize its endorsement and resolution seeking to fast track the construction of the stalled North Rail project, citing its importance to the Clark Freeport and linkages to Metro Manila.
